Ontario's tomato growers and processors are pleased to have been chosen by the World Processing Tomato Council (WPTC) to host the 8th World Congress and 11th ISHS Symposium on the Processing Tomato from June 8th - 11th, 2008 in Toronto, Canada (Post Congress Tour - June 12th & 13th). The 2008 Congress and Symposium will also provide the opportunity to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the WPTC.
The WPTC is an international non-profit organization representing the tomato processing industry. Currently, Its members represent more than 90% of the volume of tomatoes processed worldwide.
The organization was created in May 1998 during the 3rd World Processing Tomato Congress held in Pamplona ( Spain). Council members include professional grower and/or processor organizations representative of their production area. It is headquartered in Avignon (France) and currently chaired by Louis Chimside from Australia, while Sophie Colvine is the General Secretary.
The ISHS, dating from 1864 and formally constituted in 1959, has more than 6000 members representing 146 countries. It is the world's leading independent organization of horticultural scientists and publisher of Acta Horticulturae, Chronica Horticulturae, and Scripta Horticulturae
The aim of the ISHS is: "to promote and to encourage research in all branches of horticulture and to facilitate cooperation of scientific activities and knowledge transfer on a global scale by means of its publications, events and scientific structure"
Membership is open to all interested horticultural researchers, students and organizations.
